Alright. I suppose its about time I stepped foot into the public realm a bit. I've been pondering whether its worth my time (and sanity) to join the local art group and possibly start entering pieces into shows. Its a bit nerve-wracking, as I don't like being in the public eye at all ... and a this group demands that you actually become involved with the art community (go to gatherings, etc). To say I'm a wallflower is to gentle in your observations! Years ago, I had entered shows by this group and won ribbons. Perhaps I should just suck it up and do it again.
Also joining the Pastel Society of the West Coast. This is just for recognition and to have one well-known group added to my resume/portfolio. I'll never have to meet any of these people, unless I decide to show some pieces at one of their openings in Northern California.
And I'm biting the bullet to try out for the Pastel Society of America. Its a very selective organization with only 900 members (turning down many many more). I'm not sure if I'll get in, but if by chance it happens it'll be for life and will be a recognition worthy of touting.
We'll see how my fragile social skills hold up.
I say go for it Rick, I think you are very talented and this will be a great way for you to get out and meet new people. Who knows where it may lead or what doors it may open but finding out is half the journey.
ReplyDeleteI did. Still nervous about it all, but I'm now a member of two groups with pending memberships in two more. Meeting new people is not a strength of mine, and I'm really getting out of my comfort zone with all of this. On the bright side, however, I am getting much more recognition both locally and regionally. I wonder where things would be had I actually painted these last ten years.
